CENTENARY OF MARSDEN'S LANDING.
MEMORIAL CELEBRATIONS CON-
TEMPLATED.
WELLINGTON, Aug. 21
There was a well-attended meeting at the Town Hall last night to consider the question of fittingly celebrating the centenary in 1914 of the landing of Bishop Marsden, and the first mission of the Church of England at Bay of Islands. Bishop Sprott presided, and there were also present the Primate (Bishop Neville), Bishop Averill, and Bishop Julius. The latter announced that it had been decided to hold a celebration at Bay of Islands, and also a missionary pageant in Wellington. A memorial fund would be raised. The promoters are pledged to give £500 to the Bible-in-schools fund and the remainder will be devoted to erecting a memorial church where Marsden landed, or where there is a permanent population.
