COMMANDING OFFICER KILLED

MANY MEN KILLED AND WOUNDED. (By Telegranh-Press Assn.-Copyright) LONDON, Aug. 12. It is officially announced that over one thousand Dervishes between Berberah and Odwein on Saturday attacked 150 camel constabulary, who were despatched to suppress in-ter-tribal looting.

Their retreat being cut off, the constabulary formed a zareba, but the Maxim gun became jammed.

Captain Corfield, commanding officer, was killed, and Captain G. H. Summers severely wounded.

Fifty of the constabulary were killed or wounded.

The Dervishes withdrew after heavy losses, when their ammunition was exhausted.

A British relief column has effected a junction with the constabulary near Burao, and is preparing to resist further attacks.
