Evidence was given to the effect that accused was married at St. Paul's Church, Canterbury, on February 12, 1908, to Beatrice Newton, who was present in Court. Subsequently accused went to Newcastle and returned eight months later when a child was born. He again left New Zealand. He had written to his wife and sent her money, but she did not see him again till February last in Hamilton.
