RUATANGATA.

(From Our Own Corresponded.'..)

SOCIAL.

The social advertised for the 15th

inst. was a decided success in every iwajy', pleasure-seekers being in attendance from the surrounding- districts in numbers that comfortably taxed the hall accommodation, and all departed with 'impressions that for sociability Ruatangata takes some beating. Mr A. Drake supplied the dance music, and was ably assisted by Mesdames Alick and Tremaine (piano), and Messrs Dyer, Sykes and li. Drake (accordian). Mr J. Tremaine officiated as M.C. PICNIC MEETING. General interest is being taken in the meeting of settlers convened for the purpose of discussing the pros and cons in connection with holding a school and general picnic, terminating with the customary dance in the evening. The meeting is to take place in the Public Hall at 8 p.m. of the 25th inst., and the 19th or 20th December is the probable' date of the picnic, being breaking-up day. SUPPLEMENTARY GRANTS. Most pleasing is the fact that through sincere applications to the 'Government, there appears on the above estimates an additional £100 to ensure the completion of the Wairua metalling scheme, also that £100 has respectively been allocated for the purpose of providing a road via Ruatangata-Maungatapere and Naratanui-Kaurihohore. LAND PURCHASE. In -every path of life there are to be seen youths with hope, strength, and ambition, practically going to waste for the want of a little influence, or financial assistance to provide for them the stepping ston-e to success. And it is pleasing to note that Mr Hodge, senr., has put his shoulder to the wheel, and by so doing Mr H. Hodge has been able to purchase 400 acres of Mr Hardies estate at £6 15s per acre, and eventually "Your Own" will venture to say that the confidence reposed will not be found wanting.
