WHANGAREI CHORAL UNION.
" THE MIKADO. "
A striking indication of the interest manifested by the members of the Whangarei Choral Union was witnessed last night, when in spite of exceptionally wintry weather, over twenty turned up to the usual weekly practice of the comic opera "Mikado." The interest has been maintaind in a similar manner all along, and the executive have confidence that the Opera will be speedily ready for public production, and will entirely eclipse in excellence every production hitherto staged by a local organisation. The full personnel has been fixed upon, and the principals are rapidly learning their parts. The dramatic personae is as follows: — The Mikado cf Japan.—Mr J. N. Dalston. Nanki Poo (his son, a wandering minstrel, in love with Yum Yum). —Mr ■pt T-Tpfitlipr Ko Ko (Lord High Executioner of Titipu).—Mr 3L Johnson. Pooh Bah (Lord High Everything Else).—-Miss C. F. Smedley. Pish Tush (a Noble Lord).—Mr R. Screaton. Yum Yum, Pitty Sing, Peep 80, three sisters. —Miss E. Shirley, Miss W. Foote, Miss A. Peters. Katisha (an- elderly lady in love with Nauki Poo). —Miss E. Galloway. Chorus of school girls, nobles, guards, and coolies. Mrs E. McMahon is the ballad mistress. Next Tuesday the Union will commence practising in the Theatre Royal, and as the scope in the larger building is more pronounced, the interest of the amamteur performers will be considerably increased,
