LIONEL TERRY.

RELEASE REFUSED.

NO UEASON GIVEN.

WELLINGTON, Feb. 14.

Mr J. L. Kelly, who has been interesting himself in the question of Lionel Terry's release, has received a reply from the Premier stating that, after most careful consideration, it has been decided that the prayers of the petitioners cannot be granted. It is understood that the Government is acting upon the report of responsible officials, whose opinion is adverse to Terry's release. Mr Kelly expresses disappointment with the result, especially as no reasons are given, and as matters stand the agitation is likely to be renewed.
