VALUABLE SECOND RESERVE
WELLINGTON, Feb. 14
Sir J. G. Ward, speaking at the Suburbs Rifle Club dinner last night, said that, in accordance with the Defence Act, the rifle clubs of the Dominion had now been placed on the defence r.cheme. As such they would form a valuable second reserve, which in the course of a very few years would ensure New Zealand being in a position that all its manhood would be acquainted with the use of arms when they had been drilled and trained.
The intention was to form Rifle Clubs in all aieas throughout the Dominion. Men who were not posted to the Territorial force would be posted to these Rifle Clubs in the various drill centres. They would be required to attend a certain number of drills and to under.so musketry training at rifle ranges. Rifles and ammunition •would be available to carry out the musketry course.
