AYRSHIRES FROM SCOTLAND.
FOR MOUMAHAKI FARM. SELECTED ON PERFORMANCE. The Moumahaki State farm dairy . herd will shortly be augmented by the I inclusion of some valuable milk record Aryshire stock which have just arrived from Scotland, where they were selected by Mr James Dunlop, - the Scottish Agricultural Commissioner who visited this country some time back. The cattle comprise six heifers and a bull. Their introduction has I special significance to the dairy farmers of the Dominion, as they are the first Aryshires which have been selected according to actual performances. That they are of the best strains from this pont of view may be relied upon, for Mr Dunlop is one of the pioneers of the new and wholesome ■■ doctrine of developing the Aryshire on milk-performance lines. At one time show-ring merit was the one test of | value of Aryshire cattle, but to-day it | ig- the milk record bull which realises! the big money. Because can now j ' furnish a pedigree of performance the j . Ayrshire breeders of Scotland are ex- | » periencing a veritable boom in their | stock from abroad!, with the result that the old fancy showyard type of Ayr- j shire is fast disappearing. It is the I intention of the Department to work on similar lines at Moumahaki and other places where State herds are kept, so that when cattle are drafted into the farmers' herds throughout the country the purchasers will have some reliable information regarding Iplhe capabilities, as well as of the breeding of the animals that are bej ing purchased. It is to be hoped that breeders of all classes of pedigree * dairy stock will emulate the example set by the Department in this respect, which, by the way, they give every indicatffin of doing. Th bull of the consignment, Netherton Good Bonus, is a brown and j, white bred by Mr Thomas Clement, ' ' Netherton, Newton, Mearns. Of the heifers Dalmasternock White Blair 4th was bred by Mr James Garven, Fenwick, Ayrshire, Parkheads Dewdrop was bred by Mr J. F. Young, Fenwick. Fenwick Cherry and East Newton Beauty are a pair bred by Messrs J. and M, Howie, of Newmilns, Ayrshire. The last of the consignment is Fenwick Maggie, bred by Mr Andrew —-^-——— -
Lindsay, of Stewarton, Ayrshire. The cattle are nov. r undergoing the necessary term in quarantine at Somes Island.
A unique attendance record has been established at the Gore school by a family named Ross. Annie Ross consistently obtained first-class attendance certificates for six years. Jack maintained a similar record for eight years. Molly has accomplished the feat for nine years, and David possesses a ten years' first-class attendance record.
