X-RAYS FOR THE HOSPITAL.

SINCE the final meeting of the Hospital Sunday Committee, three members, appointed respectively to repre-\ sent the Manchester Unity and New / " Zealand Oddfellows and the Druids' Friendly Societies, have been deliberating as to the best manner of applying the Hospital Sunday proceeds of £82 10s (including subsidy) so as to meet the most urgent need at the Whangarei Hospital and the public wish. After careful investigation and discussion it has been decided to recommend -to the Board, through the local executive, that the sum be placed towards a fund for installing an X-Ray apparatus. The cost of the actual apparatus would be practically covered by the sum named, but the question of power has to be considered, and it is estimated that approximately £ 120 more would be „ required for the purpose, either for a. ' Pelton Wheel—if there is enough force available on the hill—or a small gas engine. There will be a sum of about £60 to credit altogether from the Hospital Ball, and if the mittee of that enterprise could sfee its way to falling in with the recommendation made by the Hospital Sunday Committee the proposal would bo something less than £60 short of realisation. Many local residents, who have hitherto hesitated to subscribe unless some specific object were in view, will now have an op_ portunity of helping, and it should not take long to raise the balance required. As to the advantage of the X-Rays there can be no two questions; to the Medical Superintendent —who is thoroughly conversant with the working—and to patients whose cases could be promptly relieved instead of undergoing the risk of waiting for developments. The Hospital equipment and appointments are things that a district of this size maywell be proud of, and the addition of

X-Rays would place the institution on an up-to-date footing unsurpassed even in city centres. We hope to see this excellent supplement of the hospital outfit an accomplished fact "Within the very near future.
