SHOOTING SEASON'S FIRST TRAGEDY.

AN OVERLOADED BOAT,

TWO OCCUPANTS DROWNED.

WELLINGTON, May 2,

Meagre details of a distressing accident on Lake Wairarapa are to hand.

Four men—G. Pepperill, aged 60, his son, nephew, and a friend went out in a small boat to shoot ducks. The weight of the four proved too much for the frail craft, which sank, two of the men being drowned.

Pepperill is one of the victims. It is not known whether the nephew or the friend is the other. The son was saved.
