EXETER ELECTION PETITION.
DEFEATED CANDIDATE ANGRY.
UNEXPECTED REBUKE,

Mr H. St. Maur."(Liberal); who JhaS just been unseated by one vote, when. quitting Exeter, speaking from the railway carriage, said: "When the town is purged of the class of people responsible for the petition, and the country is cleared of unjust judges, we shall meet again."
Someone touched Mr St. Maiiron the shoulder. Looking round, he saw Mr Justice Ridley, who said: "You have no right to say those things off me."
Mr St. Maur replied: "I have a per* feet right to express my opinion." .
Other heated words were exchangred, Mr St. Maur's sympathisers jeered Mr Justice Ridley. Meanwhile the latter sat down and became absorbed in a newspaper. ; r
Mr St. Maur concluded his speech! by saying that when, before long, he was returned to the Commons, considerable notice would be taken of the Exeter case.
Mr H. E. Duke (Unionist) who has been declared elected to the seat, as the result of the inquiry, addressing the Constitutional Club at Exeter, stated that an overwhelming majority on both sides was determined to have clean fighting. Neither 'party was responsible. for city men devoid of political morality. He hoped that the Constitutionalists would enter oa any future .fight with personal goodwill towards every straightforward opponent.
