NEWSPAPERS PROPRIETORS.

ANNUAL MEETING,

SHOULD SUICIDE BE PUBLISHED?

QUEENSTOWN, Feb. 24

At the annual meeting of the Newspaper Proprietors' Association yesterday, the principal papers of the Dominion were represented. Mr P. Selig, chairman, in a lengthy address, reviewed the work of the past twelve months. It was unanimously decided that the address be printed and circulated among the members. A heavy agenda paper was disposed of. It was decided to write the Premier respecting journalists visiting England for the Coronation and Imperial Conference. An interesting discussion was evoked by a letter from Dr. Alexander, of Ashburton Hall, urging the non-pub-lication of cases of suicide. A number of letters on the subject were also read from leading editors in New Zealand, who were practically unanimous that the news could not be suppressed. The meeting endorsed this opinion. Mr Selig was unanimously re-elect-ed chairman.
