TELEPHONE EXTENSION
The new telephone extension between Parua Bay and G. au-.mtown la now well under '-vj-.j, aad is comph tedas far ar. Darken y Mty It will be now only a matter of a'few days when one will be able to talk direct with Whangarei. But I understand that this line is a Government concern, the of the district not being ask(\d to give any guarantee for working expenses and upkeep, etc. Although it will be a great benefit, it is disappointing in a way. When the application was made to have the telephonic communication direct with Whangarei I think that the residents were in hopes of being able to have a connection with their private residences, so as to enable them to converse locally as well as out of the district. This, so 1 am told, they will not be able to do, as the Government will not allow any private connections to be made. Anyway, it will be a great advantage to be able to ring up Whangarei direct, when you are in a hurry, instead of sending a telegram in the old round-about way through Waipu. DAIRYING. The continued dry weather is having a telling effect on the supply of cream to the factory. The output has decreased to a shade more than half the quantity in the month of December. Still tfce rain we had a week or two back steadied the drop a good deal, and freshened up the grass.
