THE FLORAL FETE.

The Floral Fete and Fair to be held in Mr H. Weaver's paddock, in aid of Christ Church, next Thursday afternoon, promises to be one of the most successful outdoor functions yet held in Whangarei. The Committee are working hard to secure attractions, and there will be an endless number of novelties and side-shows on the ground. The Fete will be continued in the evening, when there will be bright moonlight, and as the fair will be lighted by acetylene and aerogen gas the effect should be very brilliant. In regard to the competitive events the entries promise to be large. There will be decorate-! motor cars, go-carts, bicycles, wheelbarrows, and an endless variety of other vehicles. In that respect it is wonderful what fine effects can be obtained by decorating toywheel barrows, hoops, .perambulators, and other homely things with ribbons, flowers, and colored papers. Many wonderful mechanical devices can be made with cardboard and string, us- r nig the wheels of the vehicles for driving power, and such exhibits usually win a prize. Parents cannot do better than encourage children to compote in the various classes, as it tends to develop their artistic tastes, and especially with boys helps them to be ingenious in inventing ''ontrivances. The Fete next Thursday promises to lip unique in every way, and a source of amusement for old and young.
