Extent of the Disaster.

Fate of New Zealanders, Wellington, April 28. The Premier has received from the Governor a copy of the following telegram from the British Consul at Oakland: — "The disaster is principally confined to San Francisco, Santa Rosa, and San Jose. ' ' The New Zealand casualties are believed to be very small — indeed, none are actually known as yet. "I am making inquiries as to the persons named in your telegram. "The following are known to be safe: Dr" Albert Sykes, Mr Harry Hutton, Mr W. G. Harrison and Mr H. T. Whitsom and wife." Others reported safe are Mr T. G. Tanton (Devonport), Mr A. Heslop (Newmarket), and Mr J. Walters (Grafton-road, Auckland).
