OBITUARY

A sad event occurred on the 2nd inst., namely, the death of Mr Wm. Gordon, one of the pioneer settlers, aged, 54 years. Deceased, who formerly be* longed to the 18th Royal- Irish, Was suffering from that painful disease, cancer in the mouth, and Vhad undergone two operations in the Auckland Hospital. Now that the warm weather has set in grass' and other growing crops are lodising Well. SCHOOL. There was a special meeting of t^ie School Committee on the 4th, to cqii.sjder a circular re drainage, but /as there are no drains and the scHdol buildings are on a bad foundation,; it was considered that it would require .an expert to deal with the matter. Replied to accordingly.
