After half-an-hour's delay Harrison kicked oft' for Whaugarei and Grriffen returned into touch at half-way. Prom the throw in Kamo forwards made a splendid rush and kept play in Whangarei's 25 for some time where the ball went out. From tnS throw-in Kaino again made a determined rush, which ended in Sanderson scoring for Kamo near the corner flag. Cambie was entrusted wi+h the place, but failed to add the extra points. HAIiP-TIME CALLED. From the kick-off Wilkinsoninarked and returned into touch, Maeken secured and made a run across the field going out at half-way. After the throw in Sanderson marked and sent the ball out between the corner and 25 flag. Calkin relieved his side by a long kick. After some exchange kicks by the backs of both sides, Wilkinson started a sprint up the field but slipped before gaining much ground. Meyers picked up but was stopped well by Reid, who after a short run kicked out well up the field. Play now became fast and furious on both sides, Maeken, Harrison and Grace making strong efforts to score, while Cambie, Sanderson and Cadman were continually breaking through the opposing forwards and were only stopped by the boll going out. Prom the throw-in a scrum started near the Whangarei line, but Calkin again saved his side by a long punt down the field. After some more line play half-time was called without further score. WTTATTOAREI SCORES. Cambie started a dribble but was stopped by Purchase before going far, Sanderson upsetting his ideas took play in front of their opponent's goal where things became very lively and Kamo looked like scoring. Reid gave a free kick to Whangarei, who took the advantage and relieved by a long kiok. After the exchange Wilkinson marked m front of the AVhangarei goal. Griffen was chosen to add the desired points, but Grace spoilt his attempt and rushed play doAvn to Kaino's 25, but by the Whangarei forwards kicking too hard spof9|b their chance and charged Kamo down. Dowling secured the ball from the return and made the best run of the day passing all the Whangarei backs, but Elliott lost a sure chance by fumbling which Smith took advantage of and took play to Kaino's 25 again, and f • iom that time to call of time scrum work continued, during which Whangarei got a try by rabbiting. Smith failed to 'convert, the ball going wir!f\ From the kick - off again play settled in Kamo's 25 where Cambie and Sanderson kept things lively by getting through the scrums continually; time was called without further score. THE PLAY. For the Whangarei team, Harrison, Maeken and McMillan played the best forward game, heading some strong rushes, while Smith, Conaghan and P. Calkin played best for the backs. For Kamo, Cambie and Sanderson were the pick of the ground, the latter could not be improved upon in the forwards, while all the backs were safe and hardly made a mistake, but Phillips shouli remember kicking a rolling ball is bad play. Bowling's run was the best of the clay, passing nine players in a nent dodgy style. The game was the best played this season. The passing by the Kamo backs was good and the Whangarei backs kicked splendidly. But footballers must remember that anything said or done on the field should not lead to such unseemly conduct as was witnessed once or twice during the game.
