ACCIDENTS AND OFFENCES.

The body of an elderly woman was found on Sunday last, lying half buried in the sands on Takapuna Beach. Two burglars Potter and Clements hay c been arrested while clearing the bar of the Rainbow Hotel, Kaiwarrg, in the suburbs of Wellington. The men had made an unsuccessful attempt earlier in the night to rob an adjacent Hotel and the alarm having been given the police were on the alert. Potter has only just been discharged from gaol after serving his sentence for a similar offence ; the other man was not previously known to the police as a criminal. A man named F. It. Davies has been remanded to Melbourne charged with embezzling the money of his late employers the Mutual Assurance Society. A young man named Richard Morrow met with a severe accident by being badly crushed between two logs while working at the Sawmills, Mount Eden road, Auckland. It is feared that he has received internal injuries. Edward Turner 40 years of age dropped dead in the streets of St Albans, the cause is heart disease. Heavy floods are reported from the Nelson District. Although only seventeen hours rain fell, the rivers are reported as having risen in higher flood than has been known for twenty four years. A good deal of damage has been done to the railway lines, roads, bridges, and culverts.
