DUNEDIN EXHIBITION.
Ox Tuesday a meeting of those interested in having Whangarei district adequately represented at the forthcoming Dunedin Exhibition, was held in the Council Chambers. There were present : — Messrs S. Dent, Barton, Bucktiurst, Street, Rawnsley, Carrutb, Elliott, J. Harrison, Allender, Keyte, and H. Cooke. Mr Buckhurst was voted to the chair. It was resolved that the gentlemen present form a committee to carry out the object proposed, with power to add to their number. Mr Carruth was elected treasurer, and Mr Cooke, secretary. It was suggested, amongst other things, that a model of the county, showing its principle features, the character and extent of its minerals, &c, be made, and the secretary was requested to insert an advertisement with the view of securing the services of a person competent to undertake the work. The secretary was also requested to forward circulars asking intending exhibitors to mention the name aud character of their exhibits. With the view of securing adequate funds to carry out this project, it was resolved that the secretary write to the Whangarei County Council and the Kaino and Whangarei Town Boards, asking them to contribute £20 each to the Exhibition fund. The committee were of opinion that, with our wool, coal, timber, lime, cement, hematite, fire clay, limestone, building stone, gum, fish, flax, manganese, iron, silver, and other ores, in raw products, with a collection of industrial articles, sufficient could be got together to warrant application being made for considerable space. Mr Cooke, the secretary, will be glad to afford any iaformation that may be required.
