WAIPU JOCKEY CLUB.

[By Telegbaph-1 The Waipu Jockey Club held their Autumn AJeeting on Wednesday, under the most unfavourable circumstances A gale of wind, accompanied by heavy showers of hail and rain, was experienced throughout the day. The cold was piercing. Notwithstanding all these drawbacks there were about 300 people on the field. Owing to the rain the course was heavy. The racing was. very good, and large fields of horses faced the starter's flag. Everything went off well without a hitch or accident. The stewards met in the evening and settled up with stake winners, which is a thing almost unprecedented in the annals of a racingclub. There were seven, events. The following is the programme :— HACK HUEDLE EACE of 8 soys. lOst up. For all horses tnat never won a huidle race. Distance, H miles, over 6 flights of hurdle* about 3 feet 6 inches high. For all horses owned and trained by settlers within a radius of 20 miles for the two mouths previous to this meeting. Distanoe, \\ miles. Nomination, Bs. Acceptance, 4s. J. McLean's Nell . . . . 1 F. Sargeant's Scout . . . . 2 During the last racing season in Australia, the Hou. J. White has won £14,910 in stakes alone. T. Hales rode no less than eleven winners at the recent V.B.C. Meeting. It was reported that he had taken 1000 to 4 he won the first four races of the opening day, but there was no truth in this. He, however, took 1000 to GO about Cranbrook outright, and Mr White laid him £500 to nothing, so that with his nercentage and other winnings he cleared £2000 on the afternoon, while £5000 would probably represent his cheque at the end of the four day's racing, not a bad week's work any means. The Hon. Mr White's filly Volley still coDtinues her victorious career, her latest success being in the Olaret Stakes, run at Hawkesbury on Thursday last. The amount won by the daughter of Musket at the Flemington Meeting was £2012. The proceeds of the late V.R.C. Autumn Meeting amounted to over £2000 more than last year, and were sufficient to cover all expenses and leave a good profit. Five years ago, with half the present added money, the club lost about £3000 on the autumn meeting. The stewards of the English Jockey Club are apparently determined to stamp out all unfair practices, as they recently ] tasked the following rule, which was headed li Important Notice to Jockeys": — "The attention of the stewards of the Jockey Club having beeu directed to the practice adopted by many jockeys of crowding-in upon, and crossing in front of, other horses when less than two clear lengths ahead, especially during the earlier portions of races, the stewards give notice that Rule 32 (i) and (ii) will be literally and strictly enforced from the start to the finish of every race, whether the result has been affected or not, and the license of auy offending jockey will be immediately withdrawn."
