CONFIRMATION SERVICES.

The Eight Rev. Bishop Coww paid his annual visit to this district on Sunday last. ' In the morning he preached to a large congregation at Christ Church, Whangarei. The text was taken from the 6th chapter of St. John's gospel, verse 14. At the conclusion of the service he administered confirmation to .eight candidates, six boys and two girls. Their names are. Girls : Misses A. M. CaflerandM. Eoss. Boys: Masters A. Mair, S. Mair, A. Macken, T. Macken, G. S. A. Dj&vis, and F. Hart. In the afternoon the Right Rev. gentleman attended the Sunday School, and addressed the children at some length. He explained the vast amount of good done by Bishops Selwyn and Patterson in converting the savages of the islands, and exhorted the children to take an example from such, brave and good men, whose whole lives were devoted to God. The Bishop was listened to attentively hy the children, and seemed to leave a marked impression on their minds. In the evening the Bishop visited Kamo. The little church was quite full of people, several having walked or ridden from Whangarei. The rev. gentleman preached, an eloquent sermon from the 3rd Epistle to Titus, 3rd chaptei, verse 4. After the sermon six candidates were confirmed. Their names are, Rose Wakelin, Susan Wakelin, Emma Hawkes, Annie Hawkes, and Herbert Wakelin. The singing was spirited and cheerful, and the Bishop must have felt gratified at the reception he received. Dr. Cowie proceeded from here to Kawakawa on Monday by coach.
