OUR VOLUNTEERS.
THE Volunteer Hall, which is a most
roomy and useful building, is fast ap- ~. preaching completion. We hear it is rumoured that it is the intention of the company to celebrate the opening of this Hall by a grand public ball, ou» brave defenders to be in full dress. The arrangements are to be on a grand scale, forming quite an epoch in the volunteer history in Whangarei. The competition for the honour.pf holding the Colbeck Cup for the year 1888 ■will take place on the loth inst., at noon. ■ We are given to understand that the " young blood " in the company is making capital shooting, asd iikely to run veterans very close. "We are glad it is so ; were it otherwise there would be little progress made for want of competition
