MISCELLANEOUS
Last week we reported the death of Robert Robinson, engaged in gumdigging, at Waikiekie, respecting whom a correspondent has been requested to say that, "from a report which appeared in the Weekly News, his relatives in Auckland might possibly attribute his death to want of attention and nursing during his illness. Such lam informed was far from the case, as during his illness Mr and Mrs Mace, and other settlers, were assiduous in their attentions to him. Trusting you will give insertion to the enclosed report or make some mention of the particulars." The Maunu friends will give a concert on Thursday next, in aid of the Harmoium fund. An evening spent in this pretty suburban locality is always attractive, and we have no doubt this concert will be largely attended. On Tuesday next a soiree and concert will be held at Rautangata, in the East School Houie. This annual concert has always been a great success, and we believe that efforts are being made to render the present one equal in every respect, to those of the past. A well appointed tea will be provided, ana a very attractive programme arranged, so that visitors may feel assurred that an extremely pleasant evening will be secured. A dance wiJl follow the concert* Our visiting dentist, Mr Smith will be in Whangarei on Wednesday next. Persons requiring his aid will do well to bear this in mind. On Wednesday last Mr Buckhurst held a horse sale, in the mill yard. A good number of "animals were offered, but bidding was slack. It ii probable that, when this matter is more generally known considerable business will be dene. J^r Barr, of Hikurangi, writes us to the efiact, that he did not compete for tho shoeing at thb Agricultural Show, as reported. We'iwould call the attention of persons requiring farms to the advertisement of Messrs Anderron and PhUlipson of Auckland. Property in every part of the provincial district is in thei^ hands for sale, some few of which are advert&ed.
The County Council calls for tenders for works on the'llikurangi Swamp Road. Tenders are called for the building of a dwelling house, for Mr B. Yates, Rnatangata, labour only. On Thursday next the usual monthly meeting of tiio Whawjjarei T'ruib Grower's Association will be held, in the Council Chambers. Tenders are called by the Town Board for curbing and channelling a portion of Cameron Street. Ladies who wish to avail themselves of the tuition of Miss Aley, and acquire a knowledge of the accomplishments of art needlework and painting, will do well v tq apply to her at o»ce. as she leaves Whangarei on Thursday next, As she relinquishes her shop in Cameron-street to-day, any commands left at the oftice of this paper will be attended to.* Sir Julius Yogel has received notice to quit Ministerial quarters within 14 days, and another jehu already "tooles " his carriage. _— — .
