RETRENCHMENT.
"Wellington, Thursday. The Cabinet's scheme of retrenchment involves reductions to between a quarter of a million and three hundred thousand pounds. The reductions extend over the whole colony. Education suffers with the rest. Important disclosures with respect to the North Island Trunk Bailway loan will be made in the House next week. A sum of £40,000 has been spent from the fund in making roads towards the line in the Wanganui district, and snagging the Wanganui River.
