BY TELEGRAPH.

Auckland, Thursday. Great disappointment is felt here in respect to the proposal, in Financial Statement, to withdraw the subsidy now granted for communication with South Sea Islands. Erection of a lighthouse on Curier Island, is to be commenced in August or September. During the heavy gale on Monday night last Jorkingtoirs huose of four rooms, at Big Omaha, was lifted by the hurricane and thrown down a bank towards the sea forty yards. Strange to say the roof and sides were lifted {clean off the floor. Mr Jorkington and three boys were sleeping in the house. Chimney fell with such violence across a table that it sank one of legs through the floor and smashed the table to pieces. How the occupants escaped is & mystery to all.
