A MISREPRESENTATION
Labour Has No Agreement with Mr. Massey Statement by ir. Holland
In the "N.Z. Time's" of Monday morning last appears a paragraph in the political gossip column in which it is alleged that the Labour Party has ma&e an arrangement with, tha Government to "offer no very determined opposition to the Government's programme being put through in time to allow of Mr. Massey leaving for London at the end of August." The par proceeds to static that part of the compromise is in regard to the Government's Electoral Reform Bill.
Interviewed by Tho Maoriland Worker Mr. Holland, Leader of the Parliamentary Labour Party, gave the. rumour A MOST EMPHATIC DENIAL.
"No arrangement has been corns t*> and none will be come to," said Mi*. Holland. "Th e Labour Party will pursue the course it has always folio wejd—that of fighting on the ground of principle. It maintains the "attitude it took up at the commencement towards Mr. Massey and the Imperial Conference, and it wall not deviate from this to suit the Prime Minister's convenience in this respect. So far as 'the Electoral Reform Bill Is concerned, the Labour Party WILL FIGHT TO THE LAST DITCH any measure that is not *n line with the Party's platform On this question." In conclusion, Mr. Holland said he was convinced that the paragraph was INSPIRED BY - THE LIBERAL PARTY with some ulterior motive.
