HEARD IN SCHOOL.
A teacher was giving a reading lesson. To know if the children were attending and understanding, she read the following passage:— ■ "And through the narrow window a bar of sunlight shone, striking against the grim wall as if to brighten the prisoner's dreary life. Going" to the window the prisoner gazed at tlie yard below." "Now, children," said the teacher, "why did he look through the window?" "To see wiio threw the soap," .cried the class as in one voice. & <•*= . # * Another teacher was trying to make the children understand the difference between our clothing and the animals' furs. "Have you got a warm, woolly overcoat, and can you take it off?" she asked. - Class: "Yes, miss." Teacher: "And can the bear take his.warm overcoat off?" Class: "No, miss." ' Teacher: "Why not?" Little Boy: "Because God only knows where the buttons are."
