Port Chalmers Electorate

A meeting was held at Sav/yera Bay on Wednesday, July 4, for ihe purpose of forming a Branch of tha New Zealand Labour Party. Mr. R. G. McDonnell, Secretary of the Otago Labour v Representation Committee,was present by i aviation, and addressed the meeting, which was well attended, on the necessity of a Branch of the Party being formed In the district. At the conclusion of his remarks, which were well received, a resolution w ( as moved that a Branch of tbe N T .Z. Labour Party be formed in Sawyers Bay, which was carried unanimously. Over 30 members were enrolled 'which was considered a good start. The following officers were elected. President, Mr. T. Smith; vice-presid-ent, Mr. J. Amos; Secretary-Treas-urer, Mr. J. Crighton; committee, Messrs. A. Kydd, F. Paranthoine, W. Smolensk!, G. Broadly and J. Pet* tigrew-j delegates t 0 the Otago L.R.C. Messrs. T. Smith and J. Crighton. A committee was appointed to look after the social side of the Branch consisting of Messrs. E. Emmerson, A. Kydd, J. Pettigrew, E. Tiffeney and F. Paranthoine. It was decided to meet on the first and third Wednesday of each raontb, A vote of thanks vtfas accorded Mr* McDonnell for his assistance in tba formation of the Branch.
