Westport Labour Party

ANNUAL BALL The Westport Labour Party's annual ball, which was held last week, was ;a record success. The gallery and floor space were packed at an early hour. The theatre was beautifully decorated with a canopy of Lared ribbons, the arrangements being originial and most artistic reflecting great credit on the designer, Mrs. Pat. Ryan. The stage was most artistically decorated with red hoops and black cats and in the centre was swi apple tree loaded with beautiful fruit supplied by O'Gorman aud Co., tbe local agents for the Gilbert Model Orchard, Nelson. So prolific was tbe crop of apples on the tree that a barrel full of the luscious fruit was picked prior to the proceedings opening and everyone helped themselves. It was a splendid and novel idea which was much appreciated by tbe ■largo number present. The ladles' contmittiee and the energetic secretaries, Mrs. Booth and Miss Holland, are to be congratulated on the success of the event. The floor was in KceUetat condition for dancing, and the music supplied by Mrs. Curtis' ©rehestna, left nothing to be desired. JSessrs. M. Codyre and C. Kearns 'conducted-the dances in their usual capable manner.
