A Splendid Effort

BY J.kUOVH The -problem of financing the elecition campaigns of the "Labour Party has never been faced energetically, and apart from an eleventh-hour movement with the collection hat, when the fight has actually been upon us little has been attempted. As a conse-uuen.ee. the 'Labour Party has been hampered in carrying out good piaus, and its activities have been deplorably restricted. The women in the party in Wellington are determined that a better arrangement shall apply in future, and have taken steps to organise a huge sale of work iv November next, the sale to be accom- ! panied by a Labour fete. For several mouths past from 40 to 50 of our women comrades have been engaged in a sewing circle, the materials for which have been accumulated by expenditure of funds raised from several very successful jumble sales. Piles of useful and beautiful things have j already been made, and by November Jit is hoped to have sewn enough and i organised enough to raise £1000. Yesterday Messrs. H. Dyson and A. W. Croskery addressed a well-attended meeting of the women engaged in this work on various aspects of organisation, and some useful decisions were 'arrived at. One of the proposals now being acted on is an invitation to each of the Trades Unions to run a stall, and in this connection a meeting of the women and Trades Union representatives will be held on Thursday evening of this week in the Trades Hall. A large attendance is hoped for. The enterprise is of such importance as to justify all the support Labourites can give it, and if there are any ready to make gifts in money or material, Mrs. J. Fraser, Box .310, Wellington, will be pleased to receive them.
