Canterbury Dairy Workers

The following conditions Averu agreed to in a Conciliation Council formed to deal with a dispute between the Canterbury Dairymen's Emploj r ees' Union and the employers in Christchurch last Aveek: — Hours. ; —It was decid-ed. that the hours of work a week should not exceed 52 from October 1 to March *:i, 'and 44 from April 1 to September SO. Overtime. —Time Avorked in excess of eight aud a-half hours a day between October 1 and.March 31 and in excess of eight between April 1 and September 30 shall be paid for at the rate of time and a-quarter for the first tAvo hours, time and a-half for the next tAvo hours, and thereafter double time. With regard to Sunday work, it Avas decided that it should be paid for at the rate of time and a-quarter for the first three hours and thereafter at time and a-half.

"Wages.—The employers' classification of Avorkers Avas agreed to, aud the following weekly wages A-veie fixed: —Where a manager and fifteen hands or over are employed—Tavo first assistants £5, one second assistant £4/12/-, one third £4/7/-. and all other adult Avorkers £4. Where a manager and ten to fourteen hands art- employed—One first asMstant £5, two second £4/12/-, one third £4/2/-, all other adult Avorkers £4. Where a manager and six" to nine hands are employed--First assistant £5. second £4/12/-, all other adults £4. Where a manager and one or two hands are employed--General hands (adults) £4. The following weekly Avages Avere fixed for youths: —Under sixteen years, £1/2/6; sixteen to seventeen years, £1/10/-; seA-enteen to eighteen. £1/17/6; eighteen- to nineteen, £2/5/-; nineteen to twenty, £2/12/6. Females under nineteen years, £1/5/-; nineteen to twenty years, £1/17/6; twen.ty years and ages. £2/2/6. Casuals.— Additional workers employed as casuals during the month of September or during the folloAving six months (up to the end of March) shall be paid at the rate of 1/9 an hour. Should the employment continue after March, then the Avorkers will (after March) be entitled to the Avages lu'ovided for in the aAvard.

Holidays.—The following holidays were agreed to. Avork done on them to be paid at overtime rates. Birthday of the reigning Sovereign, Christmas Day, New Year's Day. Good Friday, and Easter Monday. These are the holidays provided for under the old award, except that Easter Monday has been substituted for Labour Day.

It was also ayreed that employees who had worked not less than eight ••months during the same year ior the same employer, should receive two weeks' holiday on full pay. Boiler Attendant.—lt was agreed that a boiler attendant, whose work required him to have a first-class certificate, " should receive £4/13/- a week, and one whose work required n. second 7 class certificate, ,-E-i/S/-.
