They hate mc with a blind, unreasoning hatred — I glory in it! . In the foul recesses of my charnel house abode 1 squat— Among the scattered bones of blighted hopes, And leer viciously. At my furiously unwilling devotees. I am as unrelenting as time! .-i And as inevitable as fate! ' - I sap ambition. ~~^~ I destroy souls. I wreck the frail barque of happiness, The tortured breath of desperate, driven men is incense to mc. The cries of white-faced, struggling women are ;sweetest music. I AM.A GHOUL! Gorged, but unsurfeited —• With incessant sacrifice. The unhealthy sweat beads glisten On my flaccid flesh. I AM THE VAMPIRE! I inspire greed— Avarice—and cruelty.
