Another Liberal-Tory Arrangement?
Mr. Isitt, hungry for his cushy Parliamentary job, sold his soul to the Massey Party in order to gain .immunity from Tory opposition at the nexi election. In Christehurch North, as a consequence, £iberals and "Reformers" are as thick as thieves,' with hearts that beat as one and minds that think, a single thought. Naturally the advantage of renouncing all one's alleged political allegiances is sure to sexluce many of the so-called Liberals, who, opposed by Massey, have no chance of beating Labour. Mr. Isitt will not cut this antic in -solitude. Already he has been emulated by Mr George "Witty, of .Riccarton. George we note, has come to the conclusion that unless he flies to Mr. Massey's bosom, he will fade into oblivion From now on he will be a pure and simple £Iberal no longer, he will be an "Independent £iberal," and what this means we gather from a par in the squatter's "Dominion," which reads thus: "Mr. Witty has explained that if he is elected to the next Parliament HE? WILL BE FOUND VOTING TO KEEP MR. MASSEY JN POWER AGAINST A POSSIBLE LABOUR GOVERNMENT." If Mr. Massey is heartless enough to sacri fice his aspiring party supporter in the Riccarton constituency, George will get his! exceeding great reward— and will henceforth fetch and carry for the Torijes, whom for years he has pretended to denounce in the interests of the. toilers. Many of these, latter will have a sense of being swindled, but George..won't mind so long as he gets a straight run, with the blessing of Mr. Massey, against Labour's candidate, Mr, J. A. McCullough.
