(All news items intended for this column should reach The- Worker office not later than the-Wednesday prior to publication, and should be addressed to Labor Page, Maoriland Worker, P.O. Box 1500, Wellington.) The Auckland L:R.C. has -made every provision for the Annual Conference Avhicli Avill be held /in the Trades Hall, Hobsoh St., Auckland ou Wednesday next, July 5, at 11 a.ra, Immediately aftev lunch it has been agreed upon by the National Executive that the representatives of the Proportional Representation Society shall address the conference. The order paper does not indicate a Avide range of delicate or contentious subjects to be discussed by the delegates. There are two or three matters that will cerbainl occupy a considerable .tim e in.discussion. It is likely, in a majority of instances, that the delegates will have come instructed what- to do in voting upon matters relating to political and electoral policy. The remits standing in the names of the Thorndon Branch of thei A.S.R.S*. and "Vv>ng!aiih3 Workshops indicating that an electoral.understanding -between the Labor Party and another Party -will be tho chief topic. If all th e Branches have carefully considered- tho reasons that should determine the vote on such a inomentious issue, no time need he lost in arriving at an intelligent result which will hot only promote the usefulness of the Labor Party, but .will also render it a more potent force in the political life of New Zealand. There are other matteis of smaller interest included in the agenda paper. E\ r ery.. delegate should bear in mind that any alterations made to the platform at this juncture constitutes tho policy of the New' Zealand Labor Party that candidates Avill be called upon to defend before the electors. A constitution, invariably, is drawn up as the result of the matured experience of a particular group of persons. Amendments to the constitution should be made only when it can be proved to the mind of conference that.th e proposals offered will be au improvement on the existing one. The social side of conference has been attended to by Auckland comrades and all the delegates Avill be given a ticket to admit them to a reception concert and. carnival dance to be held in the Scots Hall on WedncsdaA' night. The Roskill Branch Secretary writes: that under the heading ''Industrial" on the -agenda paper and "No Branch Named," this should be In the of the Roskill Branch. Again, under the heading "social" on Venereal Diseases, this remit should be credited to the "Freedom Leagufe." Th e whole Labor movement rejoices Avitk.the Dunedin L.R.C. in the triumphant majority which has placed Mr. Munro, an old battler in the Party, at the top of the Poll in the recent by-election. Mr. Munro had 141 A'otes to spare over the Reform candidate and the Liberal candidate cut a sorry figure.
