TURN OF THE TIDE
The tide is beginning to turn against reaction in tho United States. Widespread protests have been rousod by the expulsion of five Socialist members of the New York Legislature, because "they stand for principles hostile to this State and nation.-"
The proposal of Congress to retlefine ■ treason ;us violation of 11) c Federal Constitution and iv adopt the death penalty in punishment, has been defeated. In the Senate the' Sterling Bill, to empower the Postinaster-Gen-eVal (o suppress newspapers without Irial is being powerfully opposed.
Another veal sign of hope is that the Semite Coimuifteo appointed to investigate Russian propaganda has ordered the Soviet representatives, Markus, Nuorkva and Weinstein to appear as witnesses, in spite jot the Department of "Justice," which is so eager to deport them.
They claim to have proof of the work of agents provocateurs in the whole of Ihe recent alleged "Red" plot, which has been used to frighten the country and serve as an excuse i'or the deportation of five thouaaud "agitators."
It is a matter of common knowledge amongst Russians that many of the notorious heads of the old Tsarist police, who fled from Russia after the Revolution, have found work in the Secret Services of the Allied Governments, especially in America, England, and Prance.
