"THE WORKER" SPECIALS
The staff employed by The Worker Company in th© production qf its papot and other job printing has put up a record. Their numbers are small, and the machinery (in part, at any Tate) i« not of the, latest pattern. Certainly we possess a very up-to-date linotype majliine, purchased less than two year* >go, which enables us to produce work "he equal of any in New Zealand, but .ho office suffers from certain, handicaps, including a limited staff, which nakes its recent record a most creditible achievement. Our first special Prohibition issue, published on February 15 last for the !vew Zealand Alliance, placed a very ;onsiderable amount of work on every>ne in the office. Prom editor (H was o, ■aso cf "thp, last man left" st the time), ■ nai-.ager, lino, operators, compositors; >rinters, and all ether assistants, it .ras a case of work your very hardest v n order that the 70,000 issue shoultf :>o got ou,fc to time and wrapped and josted to the addressees. By working a :onsiderable amount of overtime and by :he energy and willingness of v every nember of the staff, the order was euc:essfully executed, and we have been a* uired that every satisfaction was given o these who placed tb© ord&r with us. Concurrently with this big order, The Worker Printery- has had a larger) imount of job printing *han at any tim« luring its history. Last week, together with a ten-page ssu 0 of The Worker, ami a certain imount of job printing (some of which; sircuinstances have compelled us to lold up) we have completed a second :pecial edition of The Worker for the Alliance. This edition has an as* ured circulation of 70,000 copies, and flic Worker office has been a very busy dace indeed, working hours having been stended to very late every • night for < he mechanical staff. However, we Lave shown what can be done, and The Yorker staff and management will ackle any further big edition which adertisers or others may desire with a eeliug of confidence bom from the eucess of the recent two big contracts so atisfactorily completed.
