BIG SHEARING TALLY.

The following statement has been published in several daily newspapers recently: — "What is believed to be a world's record for a day's shearing has been established at Taihape by W. Vena, one of the Dominion's champion shearers, his tally at Mr. J. McCarten's shed being 339. The previous best tally was held by Riano (333), Riano's tally was made on lambs, while Vella's performance is all the more meritorious when it is considered that five hours were occupied on big ewes. Had the shearing been all lambs, Vella's remarkable total would have been considerably augmented. Two other big tallies were put up in the same shed by J. Skinner (304) and J. Queenan 264." These three ahearers are all members of the A«P.U. but none of them has written tbe Head Office about their achievement. The office would be glad to have information as to the conditions under which such tallies were put up.
