Follow members,—Long and persistant efforts to Secure improvements in the rates of pay and conditions for the ensuing season have resulted In a settlement being arrived at. Practically for the last twelve months the Union has been endeavouring to secure a Settlement by a round-the-tablc con- , ferenee. Following on conferences at (Jisbornt. ■ Wellington, 'Christchurch, aiiil Dimedin, a Dominion Agreement has been made with the representatives of the Stieepowners. Hitherto the rtJnion has. riot been in the position to/en force its demands throughout N*w Zealand, but could only rely on (he loyalty of members. In several Instances last year the A.P.U. rates for shed hands were not. conceded—a matter that stultified the Union. The present agreement now renders it impossible for employer* to evade if:. Member's engaged in the shearing industry have received substantial in<Sfeases over previous rates. It now feipains for members to assist in maintaining the advantages gained and to loyally support their organisation, So that on expiry of the agreement, we can reach out for better Jirlees and conditions with a greater chance of success. Remember that the advantages - /gained are a source of strength to the organisation, and if members do their rtiii.y and consistently support the Union, higher and greater achievements can be obtained in the future. An increase from upwards of £150,000 lias been secured, and the chief feattire is that the unorganised and lowerpaid workers throughout tho industry have received a substantial increase. It rests with members, by their courage and loyalty to principle, to see that all employers strictly observe the fates and conditions. Members should nor? that the rates prescribed are only tainimum rates, and that where exceptional circumstances exist, higher ( rates may be arranged; but members MUST NOT in any case cease work t»r . strike after having entered into an agreement on the following conditions;—

Shearing, £1/7/6 per hundred,

Wool Rollers and Pressers, , £2/12/ C per week, or 1/6 per houi* Other Shed Hands, £2/10/- \y?v week, or 1/5 per hour. Cooks, £3/10/- per week. Assistant Cooks, £2/10/- "per week.
