BIBLE IN SCHOOLS.

S. Pearson, writing in favour of the Bible in schools, sends a list of the American States where the practice has, been in force, in some cases for the last 300 years. He says:

"I . visited America - two years ago and noted that the Bible in Public Schools question was a very live one there.

"In the majority of the States some provision is made for a sample reading from tho Bible by the school teachor. Last year (1913) the State of Pennsylvania, whose population numbers 6,000,000, passed a law requiring teachers in public schools to read overy morning ten (10) verses from the Bible without comment. Any teacher objecting to be dismissed.

"In the two colleges in Wellington which are attended mainly by children, of the rich residents, there is regular Bible reading in thoso colleges; why not teach Hebrew literature and Christ's teachings in the poor-child-ren's schools?"
