REEFTON MINING TROUBLE.

PROPOSED PASTS OF SETTLEMENT. The Consolidated Golddelds and Allied Companies at Peefton, acting under legal advice, hive lodged an application for a rehearing, and also notice! of appeal against the Warden's decision granting conditional protection. Under strong pressure from the Prime Minister, they are prepared to waivo their slrict legal rights and to at once submit- the matters in dispute to arbitration, subject to the following:- —

The employers are prepared to agree !o the aiipoinlmenl of an arbitrator as provided by clause 11 r 'f the industrial agreement and to abide by the decision of that arbitrator and resume operations immediately bis decision is given, if the union will also ae.reo in ahid 1 by such, decision and to (•fliciallv instruct its members to return to work in accordance with the decision.

The two points to he submitted to the arbitrator are:—

CI) The question, of the employment of one man only to each popper drill.

(2) The right of employers lo have any mining operation performed by contract, including contracts in the slopes. —"Dominion."
