N.Z. Federation of Labor, Box 170, G.P.0., Wellington. July 12, 1012. Mr. J. 11. Smith, sec, N.Z. Institute of Jiiurn.;ilisi-i, cure "N.Z. Times," City. Dear Sir, —I have to acknowl■ dge your favor of June-17, which has been overlooked in tho pressure of work attaching to,the industrial trouble. As to the .statements made by speakers at public meetings held under the auspices of the Federation of Labor, tho organisation decs not necessarily endorse each and every utterance made from its platform. In respect to the alleged conduct of the audience, that i.s obviously a matter between you and the audience. The remarks to which you take exception might iio explained or justified if you wen- to approach the speakers responsible for them. It would probably serve no good purpose to recount the- samo at length, but instances are not scaroo in which members of your organisation!— in their official capacity — have outraged every ethic of fairplay in their treatment of the Federation of Labor and the principles for which it stands. Since certain statements are resented on your part, you will be glad to know, as it has probably escaped your official notice, that a thousand statements of the same sort, and many infinitely viler, are recorded in the columns of tho press concerning spokesmen representing this organisation, written presumably by editors and reporters apparently now smarting at receiving a taste of their own physic.— lours faithfully, J. Glover, secretary.
