NEW CLAIMS OF WELLINGTON WHARF LABORERS' UNION, 1.U.W., 1911.
1. Preference Clause.—The same as granted to Seamen's Union, with the addition of the following clause: — (a) In the event of all available Union men having been engaged the . mployer shall apply to the secretary of the Union for additional labor. 2. Wages.—A general increase of threepence per hour in all classes of work, with the exception of coal carrying, freezer and coast work, which are hereinafter mentioned.
Freezer: An increase of sixpence per liout in all freezing chambers. (b) Cost Work : An increase of threepence per hour, including payment for Sunday. Dirty Work.—Payment of threepence per hour extra over ordinary and overtime rates. Dirty work shall be held to moan work in cement, lime, superphosphates, manures, cleaning holds. 3. Dinner Hour: To be paid the same rate as tea hour.
4. Minimum Time of Engagement. — Men shall be paid at least two hours for any engagement, whether work is actually commenced or not. 5. Saturday half-holiday, or overtime rates for the class of work engaged on. 6. No work shall be performed between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. 7. Work in Stream and at Slip.— Men shall be paid from time of leaving |ila«e of engagement till time of arrival at the wharf on return.
8. Conditions of Wort.—Men shall be allowed' a full hour for meals when engaged at work in the stream, from t he time of arrival at wharf to the time of departure to vessel in stream. 9. Space Shovelling Coal.—A gang shovelling coal shall be allowed a space of at least nine feet square.
10. Regulated Hours of Engagement. —7.4.5 a.m. to 8.30; 11.30 to 12 noon. 11. Men shall be notified when required to work overtime at least two hours before 5 p.m. Subject to tho above alterations, other conditions of labor set forth in the present award shall continue for the term of this agreement.
12. Additional clauso for trimming Home and foreign vessels.—-The minimum number of men trimming in Home and foreign vessels shall bo at least equal to the number employed shovelling in the collier's hold—gang for gang . 13. Coal Carrying—The same as Sydney agreement. The ordinary distance for two carriers shall bo eight yards. For three carriers shall bo 14 yards, which may be extended to not more than 15 yards. For four carriers shall be 20 yards, and after 20 yards not less than five carriers shall bo put on. If the same carriers .ye parrying to two or more bunkers at the same time the average distance of suclf bunkers shall be taken as the distance within this rule. There is a possibility of a conference being held between tho employers and the Wellington, Auckland, Nelson, and Patea Unions. Unions should prepare their demands at. once.
