WEDDING ANNIVERSARY

A very pleasant evening was spent at the' home of Mr and Mrs C. P, Hainsworth, Ettrick, on Thursday last, October 10, when Mr and Mrs Hainsworth celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. Their many friends from Roxburgh and Ettrick were present and participated in a very enjoyable party. Some novel games commenced the evening and caused great amusement. A delicious supper followed, during which the health of the host and hostess was proposed by Mr B. H. Turner. In offering his congratulations on this noteworthy occasion, Mr Turner expressed the sentiments of all present when he referred to the pleasure they had in being present, remarking that Mr and Mrs Hainsworth’s youhtful appearance augmented well for the celebration of their anticipated 50th anniversary in another 10 years time. Mr D. Kelly, Ettrick, also enclorsel Mr Turner’s remarks and wished Mr and Mrs Hainsworth continued good health and happiness.

Mr Hainsworth, in replying, referred to the fact that as his -marriage had taken place in England, this anniversary must necessarily be somewhat incomplete owing to the absence of old friends who had participated in the original festivities. Nevertheless, Mrs Hainsworth and he bad felt that they could not let the occasion pas without some little celebration, and the presence of their N.Z. friends greatly compensated for the absence of the people at Home. In jocular vein, Mr Hainsworth referred to the many vicissitudes of marired life, adding that 40 years seemed to pass all too quickly.

Vocal and musical items followed, and 'a successful evening was brought to a close with the singing of the National Anthem and Auld Lang Syne.
