STOCK AND PRODUCE REPORT Stronach, Morris and Coy., Ltd., report for week ending Thursday, 3rd February:— Fat Cattle.—A yarding of 382 cattle was penned for yesterday’s market. The quality generally was quite good, there being several trucks of prime quality bullocks on offer with a bigger proportion of cows and heifers than usual. The market for all prime quality bullocks showed an easing of £1 to 30/- per head while medium weight bullocks can be quoted from 12s 6d to £1 easier. Cows and heifers were selling on a par with last week’s average rates until the last two races were being sold when prices for the class showed an easing tendency. Extra prime heavy bullocks to £l7 12s 6d; prime from £l4 5s to £l6 2s 6d; medium £ll to £l3 2s uq; light from £9; extra prime cows and heifers to £ll 7s 6d; prime from £8 7s 6d to £9 7s 6d; medium from £6 17s fid to £7 17s fid; light from £4 15s. Fat Sheep.—ln a fairly large yarding, numbering 2000, ewes represented fully 80 per cent of this total but included only an odd consignment of prime grades, the bulk being of medium to light description. Butchers’ wethers were in the minority, the bulk of this class consisting of medium grades and included a fair proportion of fine woolled sheep. The sale opened with prices firm for best quality wethers while best ewes at this stage were easier to the extent of 3s per head. During the progress of the sale, however, a further easing was noticeable and towards the close sales were hard to effect with the result that passings were fairly numerous, freezing sorts, however, were firm throughout. Extra prime heavy wethers to 29s 6d; prime 25s to 26s 6d ; medium 22s to 245; light from 20s 6d; extra prime heavy young ewes to 265; prime heavy to 20s 9d; medium from 15s 6d to 16s 9d; freezing sorts 13s 6d to 14s 9d.

With the butchers’ and exporters competition prices were full firm on last week’s rates. Extra prime heavy lambs to 29s 9d; prime from 23s 9d to 255; medium 20s 6d to 21s 9d; light from 18s 6d. Fat Pigs.—There was a medium entry of fat pigs yesterday, 132 being penned. These met with fair competition. Baconers, however, were slightly easier while porkers sold from a par to a shade firmer.

Store Pigs.—There was a fair entry of store pigs yesterday, 122 being forward. These met with quite good competition though prices were inclined to be easier.

Oats.—Threshing has not yet started in this district. A few odd lines of last season’s eats, however, are still coming forward and A grade Gartonsl are bringing up to 2s 10d on trucks, country sidings. Wheat,—There is no milling wheat offering so far and fowl wheat meets with a good inquiry at up to 6s ex store, Dunedin. Chaff.—The bulk of the consignments coming forward are from Canterbury and there is a fair inquiry for prime bright oaten sheaf which is bringing up to £6 ex store, Dunedin. i
