ROXBURGH ITENNIS CLUB The animal meeting of the Roxburgh Tennis Club was held in the Club house. The following Office-bearers were elected for the ensuing season:— President.—Mr R. J. George. Vice-presidents. Messrs J. Dance, J. George, R. Stedman, Dr Gilmour and Mrs Ovens. Secretary and treasurer. —Mr G. N. Jeffery. Club Captain.—Mr H. Gilchrist. General Committee —Office-bear-ers, Mr F. J. Laloli, Miss Stewart, Mrs J. H. George, and Mrs H. Tough. The subscriptions were fixed .'as follows:—Men 255, or 20s if paid by November 30th; ladies 15s, oi? 12s bd if paid by November 30th; juniors under 18, boys 7s 6d; girls, ss.
It was decided that labour be employed for topdressing. The opening dfey to be as soon as courts are ready.
It was decided to enter teams in both competitions and Mr R. George and Mr F. J. Laloli were appointed delegates to the Vincent Sub-Association and the president and secretary delegates to the Tuapeka Sub-Association.
VINCENT LAWN TENNIS ASSOCIATION MEETING
The 'annual meeting of the Vincent Dawn Tennis Sub-associa-tion was held at Clyde on Thursday, 14th October. Mr J. Gordon took the chair in the absence of the president. The delegates were: Messrs Allison and McCarthy, Hawea; Young and Elliott, Tarras; Morris and Scaife, Wanakla; Gordon and Walkinshaw, Cromwell; C. J. Davidson and J. Ross, Clyde; R. McLay and C. Sorrell, Alexandria; Dougherty and Nagel, Fruitlands; F. Laloli and George, Roxburgh. The annual report and balance sheet were adopted, the credit balance of £22 15s 9d being considered satisfactory. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mr J. Gordon ; vice-presidents, Messrs G. Morris and R. McLay; secretary and treasurer, Mr W. K. George. Executive, Messrs C. J. Davidson, T. Allison, J. Dougherty; Fixtures committee, Messrs W. K. George gnd C. J. Davidson; handicapper, Mr W. K. George; auditor, Mr E. W. George. A motion that there be only one section was carried on the casting vote of the chairman, the southern delegates supporting an amendment for two sections, eight clubs to take part. The matches will commence on October 30th, the second round on January 15th. It was decided to hold the annual tournament at Clyde on February 15th and 16th, 1938. The Clyde Club was voted £2 for the upkeep of the Association Court, and the northern delegates 30s ear hire.
When the Roxburgh Club le)arnt from the delegates that the competition was to be in one section, which meant travelling to Hawera, Tjarras, Wanaka, and Cromwell, the club decided to withdraw from the competition. It has since been learnt that Alexandra has decided to also withdraw from the competition.
