FOOTBALL MATCH

THE LAST OF THE SEASON d)he Pioneer, Club ,(Gore), travelled to Ettrick on Saturday, 2nd October to play a friendly match against the Ettrick club. A good game was witnessed by a fair attendance of spectators. Pioneer winning 14—8. ITihe referee was Mr L. Hollow. The visitors were afterwards entertained at a dinner by the Ettrick club. Chairman Mr L. Hollow apologized for the unavoidable absence of the President of Ettrick club,, Mr D. Kelly. The following toast list )vas honoured:— “The King.” “The Pioneer club,” Mr V. Gerkin. Reply, Mr Tutty. “Sister clubs,” Mr Caroline. Reply, Mr D. Bews (Golf), Mr Muir (Atheletics), Mr Mathieson (tennis), Mr J. Campbell (Hockey). “The Ettrick Football club,” Mr J. Cunningham. Reply, Mr E. Morrison.

“Host and Hostess,” (Mr and Mrs Gerkin and Miss Gerkin). Proposed by Mr Law, who took the opportunity of presenting Mrs Gerkin with a crystal vase as a mark of appreciation for services during past season.

Mr Gerkin suitably responded with thanks, etc. “Auld Lang Syne” brought proceedings to a close.

A dance held in the Ettrick hall after the dinner, friends from Roxburgh, Millers Flat and Ettrick attending. Mr D. Bews supplied the. music.

Items at the dinner were given by Messrs D. Bews, Muir, Brunns, Hill, and Hollow.
