STOCK AND PRODUCE REPORT. Stronaeh, Morris Co. Ltd., report for week ending Thursday, 7th October: — Fat Cattle—There was a full sized yarding of fat cattle penned for yesterday’s market, 322 being forward. The quality was hardly up to last week’s good standard nevertheless there were a few trucks of extra, prime quality bullocks with a bigger proportion than usual of medium weight cattle, also a fair sprinkling of cows and heifers. The market for medium weight cattle for both sexes showed a drop of 15s per head while heavy bullocks were selling on a par with last week’s average rates. Extra prime heavy bullocks to £23 2s 6d, prime heavy £lB 10s to £2O 7s 6d; medium £l3 10s to £ls 10s; light from £9 17s 6d; prime heavy cows and heifers to £l3 17s 6d; prime £ll 10s to £l2 10s; medium £7 15s to £9 10s; light from £6. Fat Sheep.—There was a yarding of 1367 sheep forward for yesterday’s market, the quality generally being only fair, there being a big proportion of fine-woolled wethers on offer, with only a few trucks of prime heavy sheep. The opening market for all sheep was on a par with last sale’s average rates, this rate being maintained until the concluding race when competition was restricted and prices for all sheep showed an easing of 2s per head. Extra prime heavy wethers to 54s 3d, prime 48s 6d to 525; medium 42s to 45s light from 31s> prime heavy ewes to 50s; prime 44s to 46s 6d; medium 34s to 37s 6d; light from 26s 6d; hoggets realized from 26s to 40s according to weight and quality. Spring Lambs.—An entry included an outstanding consignment from the North numbered 27. There was a good demand and prices ranged from 2'6s 6d to 39 s 6d according to weight. Fat Pigs.—There was a fairly large entry of fat pigs. At the commencement of the sale there was good competition and prices were on a par with last sale s rates. Towards the end, however, there was an easing tendency. Oats. —The market is very quiet and practically no business is passing. There are still a few inquiries for heavy Gartons suitable for seed purposes and these
are bringing up to 3s on trucks, country sidings. Wheat.—-Odd samples of milling wheat are still coming forward and millers will take an y Knes suitable at full schedule rates. Good whole fowl wheat meets with a strong enquiry at up to 6s ex store, Dunedin. Potatoes.—Fair consignments are coming to hand from the norm and the demand is quiet. Prime Tables are bringing up to £8 10s ex store, Dunedin. Chaff.—Heavy stocks are still held in store and the demand is quiet. Prime bright oaten sheat is nominally worth £5 5s ex store, Dunedin.
