MINERAL CONTENT OF PASTURES.

BENEFIT OF FERTILISERS

Pasture which are deficient in mineral materials are also poor in protein and other nutritional components, says the New South Wales Agricultural Gazette. ' On the average they contain a greater proportion of the less-readily digestible materials and loss of the active constituents which are rich in protein and minerals, because, the latter govern the amount of p: olein present.

It has been proved that poor pastures have a shorter period of high succulence because they lack the vigo: mis root system which is stimulated by applied fertilisers. Poor soil also increases the loss of moisture by transpiration; hence that treated pastures resist dry snells better.
