The Kox burgh boys played a great game end although appearances were agains? then: at one part of the game when Galloway led .j—o the Hoxburgh boys prove! themselves too good tor the other team, the final score being Roxburgh S. Galloway I!. in the second round Hoxburgh drew Matakanui A (the favourites for ih" tournanient) and a real dig-dong go twsvlted in Hoxburgh beating their opponents by o points, scoring a very popular ■\\ in. With Galloway and Matnkanui A out of the game it looked as if the Hox burgh boys would secure the medals, but the (dement of luck was against them in the third round in which they played Alexandra A. The general opinion about this game was that Hoxburgh would win, but although they played a good game and narrowly missed scoring on three occasions they were beaten by the Alexandra team by a try and a potted goal. In this game the Alexandra team soon found Roxburgh's weakness, -namely, the full back who is a little too young and inexperienced for the responsible position of full back in a senior team. Bv kicking high to the full back the Alexandra boys scored their first try through a bad fumble on the full back's part. This game was the «fniifinal and the final was fought out in pretty near pitch darkness between Cromwell A. and Alexandra A. The Cromwell team, who were lucky to get into the fiatil, defeated their opponents oasilv.
Some very good football was witnessed during the day. Two of the finest games were Calloway v. Roxburgh and Mntakanui \. Roxburgh. In both these games the Roxburgh team threw the ball about and it was due to their good passing and tackling that they defeated both the teams. A very large crowd were present on the ground, over 1000 people passing through the gales. Roxburgh and Millers Plat were well represented, as many a,s fourteen car loads making the journey.
