WHAT THE MAN AT THE CORNER SAYS:
Tint the weather has had plenty of "Spring" in it lately. That the orchards are showing a great display of blossom, and it will not be long before this is changed to a display of fruit. That the various kinds of summer sports are now taking on since the warm weather started. That the local tennis season commences next Saturday, but to make a success of it a working bee should get busy beforehand and put the courts in something like playing order. That the golf players are still knocking pieces out of the reserve. That the second round of the handicap has been drawn, but it does not look as if the handicap will be finished this year. ' That the local football sevens journeyed to the Clyde tournament on Saturday last. That the "Coal Creekers" met their Waterloo when they met "Haigs" seven. That their having an extra "Hand"' in the team did not seem to make any difference. That the Roxburgh seven gave a good account of themselves, managing *o compete in the semi-final. That it was 110 doubt the luck of foothall that they beat two first-class seven! and were then beaten themselves by a weaker seven than the sevens tlijy defeated.
That the Matakanui seven got qu'te a surprise when the Roxburgh boys just made Hai-g of them. That numerous accidents happened to several ol' the cars on the journey home. That " Unc" has been having a pretty busy time lately. That although he has had aW his primings gathered it does not mean to say he will have "Morland" to plough.
That "Poley" has been very busy during the last week working the "pump handle" but not on .the town side of the river.
That lie is satisfied thrc is "Morrin" praying especially when there are lady visitors about, than one would think.
That very soon he will be a first-class sprayer, that is if lie keeps at the job. That there was a fairly large fittondance at the extended night of the quadrilles last Thursday.
That the "One Step" and the "Fox Trot" were put on for the first time, but so far only a very few could do a "trot." ' '
That the "One Step" started off with one couple, but before it was ended a fair number of couples were on the floor.
That the sugar shortage is pretty bad in some parts of the country. That there is quite a likelihood of there being a butter shortage before
very long. That the Roxburgh Diggers' Clnbrooin will lie officially opened some time in the near future.
That we will have a bazaar in the town for three days of next week.
That we licar that it will be a first class turnout.
